Presentation of the book “Call Me Joseph” on the extraordinary life of Father Dr. Giuseppe Ambrosoli

The presentation of the English version of the book “Call Me Joseph” on the life of Father Dr. Giuseppe Ambrosoli, took place at the Italian residence on the 4th of April 2019. The recent publishing was realized also with the contribution from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation.
The book narrates the story of an extraordinary man, doctor and Kalongo missionary, who dedicated his life to Uganda and remained in the Country until the end in the service of the last.
The event was opened by the Italian Ambassado – H. E. Domenico FORNARA, the Minister for Refugees – Hon. Hillary ONEK and the Director of Ambrosoli Foundation – Dr. Giovanna AMBROSOLI. Touching experiences were shared by the Director of Kalongo Hospital – Dott. Godrey Smart OKOT, the Director of St. Mary’s Midwifery School – Sister Carmel ABWOT and the Vicar General of Gulu Archdiocese – Mons. Matthew ODONG.
Among the many guests that turned up, there were also: ex-Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Sen. Alfredo MANTICA; former Italian footballers – Simone Perrotta and Damiano Tommasi.
As pointed out by the speakers in their interventions, Father Giuseppe Ambrosoli is perhaps the most significant example of the Italian-Ugandan friendship. A man who has dedicated himself with great generosity to the people of Acholi, “his people”, to the extreme sacrifice.
According to the Ambassador, “even today, after over thirty years from his death, his memory is very alive in Uganda, both in local and Italian communities. The book “call me Joseph” is a great human story, a journey through the life of this extraordinary man and a reflection on the legacy that he has left us. “
The following day, the Embassy of Italy in collaboration with CAIU (Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda) presented the book to the students of Ambrosoli International School in Kampala.
