New Honorary Consulate of Italy opens in Bujumbura and Caterina Iametti installed as new Honorary Consul

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Italy in Bujumbura, Burundi was inaugurated on Friday, 17th September 2021.The ceremony took place in the presence of members of the Diplomatic Corps present in Burundi, Cabinet Ministers, and the Italian Diaspora.
Speaking about the opening of the new consulate, Ambassador Mazzanti noted that, “this sovereign decision of Italy and Burundi [to open a new consulate] reflects the strong will to strengthen the friendship between the two countries, and shows once again the intention to reinforce the bilateral political, economic and social relations.”
The inauguration was followed by the official installation of Ms. Caterina Iametti as the new Honorary Consul. Ambassador Mazzanti congratulated Ms. Iametti highlighting her skills that would enable her excel in her new position.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi was represented by Permanent Secretary Ferdinand Bashikako.
