Success of (R)Evolution Fashion Show Contest for Young Talents 2019

The 3rd Italy-Uganda Fashion show-contest, (R)Evolution Fashion Show, took place on the 22nd of March 2019 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The event was organized on the occasion of the Italian Design Day by the Embassy of Italy and CAIU (Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda).

After receiving dozens of applications from young Ugandan designers, prior to the Show an independent jury selected the best 20, who produced three outfits each that were worn by professional models on the cat walk.

The Fashion Show was graced by the elegant energy of two extraordinary M.C.s: Bettinah Tianah and MALAIKA.

At the end of the show, the jury selected Clare Asiimwe (Bantu) as best designer of the event. She will fly to Rome (Italy) for a 3-week internship in the fashion studio Lady Bee (which also participated in the fashion show with its outfits). Runners-up are Olivia Birabi (Apriolivi creations) and Joyce Namiro (Joia Flury). All other participants were recognized and awarded prices for their talent, creativity and endeavor. Their names are: Sheila Mutaawe (Shlyercrochet ); David Mahinda Bwambale (Mahinda design); Kutasha M’Sango (Zapader); Jamirah Niukiibi (HM2 House of Fashion); Debby Love aka Deborah Muwanguzi (Neka Fashions); Suzan Makato (Maks’cent Designs); Milly Rachearl Nabirye (Milliethetailor); Moreen Anitah Nairuku (Nitah crochet); Nina Mirembe (Nina Miré); Doreen Muyinda (Munda Kreations); Ella Janet Kansiime (Kanelja); Whitney Gnaj; Lilian Kahunde (Kahunde); Allen Nabukenya (Njola); Mushirah Rabaab Abdalaah Keesha; Kasoma Ibrahim (IGC Fashion); Charles Semanda (Say-manda). We thank them all for their participation and wish them a very fruitful professional career!

Special guest and ambassador of the #vivereALLitaliana (“live the Italian way”) on the cat walk was the Italian Olympic gold medalist, and Deputy President of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), Mrs. Alessandra Sensini, who wore some of Lady Bee’s creations. During her stay in Uganda, Mrs. Sensini is also engaged in a wide range of activities with the Uganda Olympic Committee and other sport organizations.

Over 300 paying participants responded to our call. As in previous editions, all proceeds of the event will be devolved to a charity. This year we have chosen WAWI (Women at Work International), for which Stella Atal (one of the most renowned Ugandan fashion designers, and a member of our jury) is goodwill ambassador. The proceeds will help WAWI’s “End Fistula” project. We warmly thank WAWI, and in particular its Founder Halima Namakula, for the extraordinary work in promoting the health of Ugandan women.
