Visas

VISA OF ITALY

The Embassy in Kampala is responsible for issuing visas to individuals who are permanent residents of Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Visa issuance is subject to a prior appointment, during which applicants must submit the required supporting documents in paper form. Biometric data collection also takes place at the appointment. Given the increasing demand for visas to Italy, applicants are strongly advised to book their appointments well in advance. Only in cases of proven urgency may applicants contact the Visa Office directly at: kampala.visti@esteri.it by attaching the most relevant supporting documents.

For detailed information on the documents to present, depending on the type of visa requested, please use this website: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/?lang=en_US

The procedures described below are the only valid means of submitting a visa application. Anyone claiming to facilitate the booking of an appointment, expedite processing, or guarantee the issuance of a visa in exchange for money is to be considered a fraudster. Such cases must be reported to the authorities and notified to the following email address: segreteria.kampala@esteri.it.

Note that this embassy runs background checks on the documents received. People presenting fake documents will be registered in the Embassy’s records and  signalled to enforcement authorities.

Applicants residing in Uganda

  • Appointments can be booked through the “Prenot@mi” portal : https://prenotami.esteri.it/. New appointments are released on the portal calendar on the first and third Monday of each month, between 9:00 and 12:00.

Please note:

  • Registration with a personal account is required in order to book. It is essential to carefully keep your registered email address and password. The Embassy cannot provide support in accessing accounts.
  • Due to high demand, available slots are quickly taken once the calendar opens. Applicants are therefore strongly advised to book immediately after new appointments are released and at least 60 days before the planned date of departure.

Applicants residing in Rwanda

Rwandan residents may initiate both national and Schengen visa procedures by requesting an appointment through the Honorary Consulate in Kigali (contacts). After submitting the required documents and consular fees (details below), applicants must in any case travel to Kampala for biometric data collection. The date of the biometric appointment will be communicated by the Honorary Consulate.

If a passport is required for travel between Rwanda and Uganda, applicants may initially submit only the supporting documents to the Honorary Consulate while retaining their passport. After biometric data collection in Kampala and returning to Rwanda, the passport can be submitted to the Honorary Consulate, which will then forward it to the Embassy in Kampala for visa issuance.

In accordance with Schengen regulations, it is not possible to print and issue a visa to Rwandan residents on the same day as the biometric appointment.

Applicants residing in Burundi

  • For Schengen visas (short stay): applications may be submitted at the Embassy of Belgium in Burundi: https://burundi.diplomatie.belgium.be/fr
  • For national visas: applicants must contact the Honorary Consulate in Bujumbura (contacts) to obtain an appointment and begin the procedure. After submitting the documentation and consular fees, applicants must travel to Kampala for biometric data collection. The appointment date for biometric data will be communicated by the Honorary Consulate.

Consular Fees

Visa application fees must be paid in cash (USD only) at the Visa Section. Credit cards and other currencies are not accepted. Fees are updated quarterly according to the exchange rate.

Current visa fees, along with information on required documents, are available on the following official website: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home.aspx#BMQuestionario
