The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers grants to partially cover travel and accommodation expenses for researchers, professors, experts, personalities, and cultural professionals who intend to conduct study or research in Italy or abroad at the invitation of a university or cultural institution.

Who can apply for the grant?

Italians and foreigners residing in Italy

Residents in Italy for at least two years, invited by a foreign university or cultural institution for study or research..

Foreigners and Italians residing abroad

Invited by an Italian university or cultural institution for study or research, to promote collaboration and joint programs.

Grant Amount

Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Americas
up to € 3.000
€ 350/day for the first 5 days
€ 250/day from the 6th to the 10th day
other destinations
up to € 1.500
€ 250/day for the first 5 days
€ 50/day from the 6th to the 10th day
The grant is a flat-rate and all-inclusive. A maximum of 10 days of actual cultural or research activity can be funded. Travel must be economy class. The invitation cannot be made conditional on the grant being awarded.

how to apply

Obtain an Official Invitation

The application is only accepted if accompanied by a formal invitation from a university or cultural institution. Invitations under bilateral Cultural Cooperation Agreements take priority.

Submit the request to the Embassy

Download the Application Form, fill it, complete it with the required documents and email it to the Italian Embassy in Kampala before  June 30, 2026.

Post-mission documentation

Within 10 days of the conclusion of the mission, submit travel documents, a certificate of stay issued by the host organization, and a final report on the activities carried out.

Application deadline.
The grant covers activities carried out from January 1 to November 15, 2026. Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, until available resources are exhausted. Please send your application to segreteria.kampala@esteri.it before June 30, 2026.
