Families were torn apart, hundreds of people were wounded and 2,500 displaced.<\/p>\n<p>The abovementioned towns (Amatrice in particular) were almost totally destroyed by the earthquake; hundreds of families have lost all their properties.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday August 27 was declared day of national mourning.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue operations kicked-off immediately after the major shock.
