{"id":220,"date":"2023-04-11T18:19:45","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T15:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambkampala.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T16:21:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T13:21:24","slug":"traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambkampala.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti\/","title":{"rendered":"Translation and legalization of documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\"><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>In order to be valid in Italy, deeds and documents issued by foreign authorities shall be legalised by the Italian diplomatic-consular Representations abroad.<\/p>\n<p>These deeds and documents, except for those drafted on multilingual standard forms provided for by international conventions, shall also be translated into Italian.<\/p>\n<p>Translations shall be stamped \u201c<em>per traduzione conforme<\/em>\u201d (i.e. declared to be in conformity with the original). In the countries where there are the so-called \u201cofficially recognized translators\u201d conformity can be certified by the said translator, whose signature is then legalised by the consular office.<\/p>\n<p>In the countries where the legal system does not envisage such translators, the certificate of conformity shall necessarily be issued by the consular office.<\/p>\n<p>In order to proceed with\u00a0<strong>legalisation<\/strong>, the applicant shall schedule an appointment with the consular office go there with the (original) document to be legalised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">To proceed with the legalization, the following procedure must be followed:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-decimal flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3\">\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">Obtain from the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs a certification on the original document in English attesting to its authenticity;<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">Have the original certificate translated from English into Italian;<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">Request an appointment for the submission of the documents by writing to the e-mail address: <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"mailto:consolare.kampala@esteri.it\">consolare.kampala@esteri.it<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">Attend the appointment with the original documents, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda and translated into Italian.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The above stated deeds and certificates shall be subject to the\u00a0<strong>payment of the fees<\/strong>\u00a0set out in the Consular Fee Schedule (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/MAE\/resource\/doc\/2017\/02\/tariffa_consolare_aggiornata__2017.pdf\">Tariffa consolare<\/a>) currently in force<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apostille<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>In the countries that have signed the Hague convention of October 5, 1961, abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents, this is replaced by an \u201capostille\u201d.<br \/>\nTherefore a person from a country that has adhered to this Convention does not need to go to the consular office and ask for legalisation, but can go to the competent national authority designated by each State \u2013 and indicated for each country in the instrument of accession to the Convention itself (usually the Ministry for Foreign Affairs) \u2013 to have the document apostilled.
