Leonardo Opera Omnia –19 November 2019- 05 January 2020 – Uganda Museum

Within the scope of the celebrations for the year dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci- the Renaissance genius- and within the programme “Italy, Cultures, Africa”, the Embassy will organize the exhibition “Leonardo Opera Omnia”. This initiative, supported by the Ugandan Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, will be on display at the Uganda Museum of Kampala from November 19th, 2019 to January 5th, 2020. Kampala, along Addis Ababa, are the two Sub-Saharan cities selected to host this project.

The exhibition, organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with RAI (the Italian Broadcasting Company), was created in the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Italy’s most renowned genius: Leonardo Da Vinci.

This initiative will display seventeen high definition and true-to-scale reproductions of the masterpieces of Italy’s most renowned genius, including the “Mona Lisa” and “The Last Supper”. The pieces are produced with the most advanced technologies of the graphic sector, to the point to be considered as “digital paintings”. Opera Omnia will allow visitors to see the entire pictorial corpus of the Artist in one place, exhibiting works usually hosted by museums in seven different countries. For the occasion, the Embassy will renovate the main hall of the Uganda Museum and give the entrance a fresh look.

The opening of the exhibition will coincide with the start of the Embassy’s Italian Culture and Culinary Week, which will take place from the 18th to the 23rd of November. This project is dedicated to the expression of the excellences of Italian culture and food. This year, five Italian chefs from the Piedmont region will offer a training to the students of the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Jinja. Furthermore, the Italian music band “Ladri di Carrozzelle”, comprised by people with disabilities, will bring to Uganda its mission of social inclusion and promotion of “diversity” through music.
