On the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Kampala and, in collaboration with the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, we announce that a special commercial flight (operated by Ethiopian Airlines) will be put in place to allow return to Italy of nationals who are temporarily trapped in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
The departure is scheduled for next Wednesday, 15th April 2020, from Bujumbura Airport and will make stops, in this order, at Kigali and Entebbe Airports with destination to Roma Fiumicino (with a stopover at Addis Ababa for refueling). Here below are the details:
15th April 2020, 14:00hrs – departure from Bujumbura
15th April 2020, 15.40hrs – departure from Kigali
15th April 2020, 18.40hrs – departure from Entebbe
15th April 2020, 22.45hrs – departure from Addis Ababa
16th April 2020, 05.00hrs – arrival at Rome Fiumicino
In accordance with the Italian Ministry of Health’s directive, in consultation with the Ministry of Works and Transport of 28/03/2020, a number of precautionary measures will have to be taken at the time of boarding and during the journey, including maintenance of sufficient safety distances between passengers, as well as, the obligation to use protective mask and gloves throughout the duration of the flight.
In order to travel more safely, a reduction in the number of seats available on the plane has been carried out: this, will impact on the air-ticket fare which will be approximately USD 1,809 per person. Since this is a special flight, there will be no refund of the ticket in the case of a waiver by the traveler.
