The Embassy of Italy is pleased to announce that the Italian Cultural and Culinary week, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, will take place in Uganda from 19 to 24 November 2018.
The program will open on Monday 19 November 2018, at 7.00 p.m., with a gala dinner at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala during which the week long activities will be presented and the Guest of Honour of the week, the Italian Chef Fabio Bongianni (#FabiolousCookingDay), will be introduced. There will also be the screening of the Italian film (subtitled in English) Stai Lontana Da Me, directed by Alessio Maria Federici. During the same evening, a lottery – whose first prize is a return air ticket to Italy offered by Qatar Airways (see the list of other awards) – will also be launched. The proceeds of the raffle ticket sales* will be donated to Project Able + (a scheme for the prevention of Burkitt’s Lymphoma, childhood cancer more prevalent in Uganda) implemented by Afron – Oncology for Africa Onlus, an organization that for nearly a decade has been focusing on the prevention and treatment of cancer in women and children in Africa and Northern Uganda.
Tuesday 20th November 2018: the programme will go to the children of a school in Bwaise II Parish (Kampala), managed by the Ugandan organization AFFCAD – Action For Fundamental Change And Development. There, in collaboration with the Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda (CAIU), the Embassy will organize reading and storytelling activities with the children (#FiabeDiRiso). Distribution of educational materials, games and clothes will also take place.
Wednesday 21st November 2018: the Italian Cultural and Culinary Week will shift to Rhino Refugee Camp in the Northern District of Arua where, in collaboration with the Italian NGO ACAV, a number of activities in favour of refugees and local communities hosting them will take place: Italian cooking class with Chef Fabio Bongianni using local ingredients, readings and story tales for children (#FiabeDiRiso), projection of Italian films.
Thursday 22nd November 2018: the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with CAIU and the Honorary Consulate of the Swiss Confederation, will screen the Italian film (subtitled in English) La Mossa del Pinguino, directed by Claudio Amendola, at 7.00 p.m. at 7 Hills International School. Entrance is free. Italian food and wine will be for sale.
Friday 23rd November 2018: the Ambassador of Italy will host a Dinner Buffet (on invitation) at his residence during which dishes prepared by Chef Fabio Bongianni in collaboration with the Italian Restaurant in Kampala LINOVE will be served. The evening will be entertained by live Italian music and towards its end raffle tickets will be drawn from the lottery.
Saturday 24th November 2018: two parallel activities, organized by the Embassy of Italy in collaboration with CAIU will take place from 10.00 a.m.:
– at Ambrosoli International School: readings and storytelling (#FiabeDiRiso) for children of the Italian community in Uganda (the event is by invitation);
– at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala: Chef Fabio Bongianni will conduct a master cooking class (#FabiolousCookingDay). The event is open to the public at a fee (the proceeds will be donated to the project ABLE + mentioned above). 25 seats are available. For reservations contact: caiukampala@gmail.com.
