The Italian Cultural & Culinary Week in Kampala (20 – 26 November)

The Embassy of Italy is pleased to announce that it will organize The Italian Cultural & Culinary Week in Kampala from 20 to 26 November. The two main topics of this edition are “Italians at the Movies; Italian in Cinema” and “The Extraordinary Italian Taste”.

The week will open with an evening (upon invitation) at the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy, which will feature a gala dinner and the screenplay of Italian director Vincenzo Marra’s latest film, L’Equilibrio. The film has just been presented at the last Venice Film Festival. The director will grace us with his presence.
The dinner will be prepared by the Chef of the Residence together with students from the Catering Department of the COWA – Centenary Vocational Training School in Nsambya (Kampala), where the Embassy has organized an Italian cooking course in collaboration with the NGO AVSI and the Italian restaurant LINOVE.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday several public events will be organized together with the Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda (CAIU), the Honorary Consulate of the Swiss Confederation, 7 Hills International School and restaurant Cafe’ Latte. These will consist in the projection of three movies – Smetto Quando Voglio (by S. Sibilia), Il Capitale Umano (P.Virzi’) and Heidi (A. Gsponer, for children) – and an evening of Italian cuisine and music (When in Rome…).

On Friday morning, Vincenzo Marra will hold a film direction seminar at the Kampala Film School, while in the afternoon he will attend the screening of L’Equilibrio at the Goethe-Zentrum, an event specifically dedicated to local filmmakers and film critics.

On Friday evening there will be an Italian gala dinner at the Hotel Sheraton Kampala, followed by the screening of Vincenzo Marra’s film La Prima Luce (presented in 2015 in Venice). The event is open to the public.

During the week, the Embassy and the Entebbe CoRSU Hospital will launch a fundraising campaign to help disabled children.

From November 20 to 27 the Italian restaurants Mediterraneo and DiVino, will accompany their customers on a culinary journey to learn about the cuisines and wines typical of some Italian regions.

The Embassy is most grateful to its partners, without whom the program of events would not have been possible: AVSI, Bayimba, Café Latte, CAIU – Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda, CityTyres, Honorary Consulate of the Swiss Confederation, Corsu, COWA – Centenary Vocational Training School, DiVino, Emirates, Goethe-Zentrum, The Mediterranean, Inspire Africa, Kampala Film School, LINOVE, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, 7 Hills International School.
